God is LOVE

image-1

Search us, O God, and fan the flame of Your love in all of us. May our eyes be open to the beautiful things that are happening because of the love of God. Wrap our heads and hearts around the complexity of this love. May we remember and learn from what love is, and let go of what love is not. Love doesn’t boast. Love doesn’t destroy. Love doesn’t lie or gossip. Love builds up. Love protects. And love unites because God is LOVE. And anything that is not of Love is not of God.

“May we let Love lead us. May we stand for what Christ stood for or rather stand with those whom Christ stands with. May we be the blessing and not the curse” (Pastor Melissa Greene, Gracepointe Church, Tenessee).

Change the trajectory of a chaotic world

Micah 6.8

Author of life, You spoke everything into creation, speak now into the realities and situations that are weighing heavily on our hearts.   Make this a safe place. Make our hearts and minds a safe place. Make us feel something that will change the trajectory of a chaotic world. Show us how to serve Your kingdom and not our own, by cutting through the boundaries that we have created so that we can, “seek justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our God” (Micah 6:8).

“God’s story goes from crucifixion to resurrection. We bear witness to this truth when we seek to end suffering. We cannot live out the gospel or the way of the cross, if we allow people to go from crucifixion to crucifixion. We must move from death to life. Not death to more death…The weight of the sin of the world is exposed when our self interest makes us totally unaware of the needs of the other” (Pastor Melissa Greene, Gracepointe Church). Make us aware. Make us aware today and everyday of the work that still needs to be done.

Journey of Lent

New Song Church

New Song Church

We come here today to hear Your Word and to be reminded that whatever it is that we have lost is nothing compared to what is found in Jesus Christ. We pray that You would help us to read and then look up from the pages of the bible so that we can stare into the face of Jesus and confront the truth and the impact of the cross. Infuse us with what we cannot see during this journey to Gethsemane, to Golgatha and the resurrection.

Remind us that even though we revel in Epiphany we do not live there, but we remain forever in Emmanuel, God with us.   “The Law says, ‘do this,’ and it’s never done. Grace says, ‘believe in this,’ and everything is already done.” (Heidelberg Disputation). So even if we do not have perfect faith let us have honest faith in a God that we so desperately need.

We are people of bread and water who hunger and thirst because we are limited by our own humanity and beholden to confront our need for the cross. You have called us to this place, and not one of us knows what our journeys will do but we pray that we will commit to those journeys knowing that the greatest guide that we have is the guide of love: the love of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

(This prayer was based on a sermon by Pastor Stan Mitchell of Gracepointe Church in Franklin, Tennessee)
