We walk with God

We Walk With God

Lord God, capture our spirits and hearts today so that we can make sense of the purpose that You have for our lives.   Help us to see the church beyond the confines of these walls because, “every human being shares in the image of God” (Pastor Eric Shafer) and no sin is beyond forgiveness.   Unite the young and the old. Bridge the gap that divides. Help us to say what needs to be said and do what needs to be done so that Your kingdom on earth can be and will be as it is in heaven.

There will be moments in our life that we will never be ready for, but You, Lord, are always ready with a strength that is everlasting. So let us not allow our hearts to shrink or be troubled. Instead let us be open to a love that surpasses all understanding. “Love is many things.  But one thing love is not is unsure” (Maya Angelou) and we only walk with God when we move forward with love.

Use courage

Image-1

Almighty God, comfort us now. Be the light in the midst of darkness and tragedy. Be our vision to see the lessons that need to be learned. Be the strength that we need to forgive those who have hurt us and give us the courage to persevere the storm. We complicate things so much that we blind ourselves from seeing the simple answer. You, Lord, are the answer. So stop our excuses because what really matters is what we do and not what we say. Remind us that You don’t use caution in loving the sons and daughters of God, You simply use courage.

“When something bad happens, we have three choices: we (either) let it define us, we let it destroy us, or we let it strengthen us” (Frank Langela).   Be our strength, O Lord, so that we can, “do something beautiful for God and take risks for love as Jesus risked his life for us” (Mother Theresa).   Let those living in the margins and the shadows be the standard of who we need to reach, protect and defend in the name of the only One who has and will always defend us.

Invite us into a new journey

FullSizeRender

Lord, invite us into a new journey today, a journey where we can see the parallels and connections to our life and Your Word. Reanimate our faith, and stir in us the desire to be guided by Your truth.   Raise our consciousness by building our vision on the strength of Your Word because we were never meant to be self-sufficient. We don’t have it all together. That’s why we’re here. Our limitations are only a reminder on why we need community with You and with each other.

“(You) Lord are close to the brokenhearted. (You) save us when we are crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18). Impact how we live, how we lead and how we love so that we “may we be fearless and excited for all the newness that is to come” (Rev. Jon Dephouse).

Our story intersected with God’s story

Salt House Church in Seattle, Washington

Lord of all, we are here today because our story intersected with Yours at the cross and in our hearts through the One who changed everything from the inside out.   Break open the floodgates of truth so that we can remember who we are: children of God who are forgiven and loved.

Lord, say exactly what you have gathered us to hear today. Speak directly into our hearts and our situations. Dim down the lies of the world so that we can remember where our hope comes from, where our strength comes from, and where love comes from.

“There is no prison so dark, or persecution so great, that can limit the power of God from breaking into and breaking through our circumstances…so there is no need to hide in the shadows of fear and intimidation” (Brenda Salter McNeil).  Instead, let us stand up for what is, what was and what will always be the Gospel: the good news that the battle has already been won. “May we know God in His suffering that we might know him in the power of His resurrection” (Brenda Salter Mcneil) and fall in love with the mystery of the Creator, the Christ and the Holy Spirit.
